Tonsillitis

Tonsillitis is inflammation (swelling) of the tonsils. The tonsils are lymph nodes in the back of mouth and top of throat. They normally filter out bacteria and other microorganisms to prevent infection in body.

They may become so overwhelmed by bacterial or viral infection that they swell and become inflamed, causing tonsillitis. The infection may also be present in throat and surrounding areas, causing pharyngitis.

Tonsillitis is extremely common, particularly in children.

Symptoms

•  Difficulty in swallowing
•  Ear pain
•  Fever, chills
•  Headache
•  Sore throat - lasts longer than 48 hours and may be severe
•  Tenderness of jaw and throat
•  Voice changes, loss of voice

Signs and Tests

The health care provider looks in the mouth and throat for enlarged, visible tonsils. They are usually reddened and have white spots on them. The lymph nodes of the jaw and neck may be enlarged and tender to the touch.

A culture of tonsils shows bacterial infection. A culture for the Streptococcus bacteria (strep) may be taken because it is the most common and most dangerous form of tonsillitis. A rapid strep test may also be performed by your physician by taking a throat swab for a quick diagnosis.

Role of Noni in Tonsillitis

Noni contains all the vitamins like vit A, vit B complex, vit C and vit E. It contains all the trace minerals. A number of major components were identified in Noni plant like scopoletin, octoanoic acid, potassium, vitamin C, terpenoids, alkaloids, anthraquinones (nordamnacanthal, morindone, rubiadin, and rubiadin-1-methyl ether, anthraquinone glycoside), sitosterol, carotene, vitamin A, flavone glycosides, linoleic acid, Alizarin, amino acids, acubin, L-asperuloside, caproic acid, caprylic acid, ursolic acid, rutin and a putative proxeronine.

Antibacterial activity : Acubin, L-asperuloside and alizarin in Noni fruit, and other anthraquinone compounds in Noni roots, are proven antibacterial agents. These compounds fight against infectious bacterial strains like Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Proteus morgaii, Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, Salmonella and Shigela. These antibacterial elements within Noni are responsible for treatment of skin infections, colds, fevers and other bacterial-caused health problems.

Noni in pain and inflammatory condition : Noni is a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Researchers found that Noni was a selective inhibitor of COX-2 enzyme. In addition Noni did no damage to COX1 enzyme.

Role of Scopoletin in Noni in arthritis and inflammation

Another reason for Noni's pain fighting qualities may stem from several of its constituents. Noni contains Scopoletin, which has anti inflammatory effects. Scopoletin is needed in the body for smooth joint movement. It also produces anti-histamine effects.

How Noni works ?

The natural integrity of Noni is only part of the reason for its effectiveness. There are two additional reasons contributing to Noni's effectiveness for a broad range of conditions :

1. Unique Combinations of Substances

For a fruit, Noni has an impressive combination of ingredients. It has a rich complement of vitamins and minerals; vitamins including A, B (including the rare B-12), C, E, iron, calcium, sodium, potassium, zinc and several trace minerals. It also has 17 of 20 amino acids. Terpenes, fungicides, adaptogens, glycosides, polysaccharides and other unique ingredients that even in small amounts can have significant physiological effects are found in Noni. Studies show that NONI stimulates immune system, regulates proper cell function, increases ability of cells to absorb and utilize nutrients, inhibits tumor growth and regenerates damaged cells. Probably the most unique ingredient is an alkaloid called xeronine. 5ml morning and 5ml evening for 3 days. Then

10ml morning and 10ml evening for next 3 days. Then

15ml morning and 15ml evening for next 8 months.
