Psoriatic Arthritis
Psoriatic Arthritis is an arthritis that is often associated with psoriasis of skin. Psoriasis is a common, chronic skin condition that causes red patches on the body. About 1 in 20 individuals with Psoriasis develops arthritis along with the skin condition. In the majority of cases, Psoriasis comes before the arthritis.
The disorder can be exhibited in a variety of ways. The arthritis is generally mild and involves only a few joints. In a few people, the disease is severe and usually affects the fingers and the spine. When the spine is affected, the symptoms are very much like those of ankylosing spondylitis. The cause of psoriatic arthritis is not known, but genetic factors may play a role. In general, people who have Psoriasis have a higher prevalence of arthritis than the general population.
Symptoms
- Nail abnormalities, or skin lesions of Psoriasis
- Joint swelling and joint pain (arthritis)
- Usually of the fingers and toes, but other joints can be affected
- Wrist pain, knee pain, hip pain, elbow pain, ankle pain
- Pain and swelling at the site of attachment of tendons to bone
- The Achilles tendon is often involved
The role of oxidants and antioxidants in Psoriasis
NONI works as an antioxidant
Our bodies are bombarded daily by the damaging effects of free radicals created through normal metabolic functions. In fact, scientists report that the DNA of each of our cells is attacked by free radicals over 10,000 times / day. Add to this with the polluted environment of today’s world, scope of the problem increases.
Uninterrupted, free radicals wreak havoc with DNA, enzymes and cells. They make it impossible for the cells to function properly. Many chronic degenerative diseases are raising their head inside our body due to the free radical damage to our cells and DNA of cells.
Antioxidants fight free radicals in three ways
- They prevent a free radical from forming.
- They interrupt an oxidizing chain reaction to lessen effects of free radicals.
- Antioxidants reduce the free radical’s impact.
Fortunately antioxidants like Noni have proven as an effective weapon against them.
Noni as a powerful and perfect antioxidant help neutralize the effects of free radicals, allowing the body to restore itself to proper balance leading to health and well-being. Noni contains many different synergistic antioxidant nutrients, including the basic vitamins A,C and E. Drinking Noni every day can help combat the damaging effects of free radicals. Free radicals attack all our vital cellular structures, like cell membranes and stimulate processes, linked to accelerate cellular aging. An antioxidant’s job is to neutralize free radical damage and thus protects us from all those chronic degenerative diseases like cancer, diabetes, arthritis, various skin disorders, psoriasis, leucoderma and many more.
According to the research article from the Department of Dermatology, University of Suleyman Demirel, Faculty of Medicine, Isparta, Turkey, psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disease characterized by well-demarcated erythema and scaly plaques. The pathogenesis of psoriasis still remains unclear. An increased reactive oxygen species (ROS) and insufficient antioxidant activity are determined in psoriatic lesions.
Noni, the powerful antioxidant contained the right combination of all antioxidants, rich in vitamins A, C, E, B, B2, B6, B12, Calcium, Iron, Niacin, Folic Acid, Pantothenic Acid, Phosphours, Magnesium, Zinc, Copper and other minerals like Chromium, Manganeses, Molybdenum, Sodium, Carbohydrates and 150 + isolated nutraceuticals. All those have made Noni a powerful antioxidant. It helps a lot to relieve symptoms of psoriasis due its high anti oxidant property.
Noni the Cell-Rejuvenator
Our body is made of micro – units called cells. Healthy cells lead to healthy tissues; healthy tissues lead to healthy organs; healthy organs lead to healthy systems; and healthy systems lead to healthy body. Health of the cells is essential for a body to be healthy. NONI, being the best nutritional supplement works at this root-level to make these fundamental units healthy and thereby make us live healthier.
Noni is an Immune Booster
The abnormal function of immune system is one of the causes of psoriasis. Noni acts like a powerful immune enhancer and immune booster. So it helps to keep our immune system well balanced to cure the psoriasis lesion.
NONI a safe Way to Increase Serotonin
Over mental stress, anxiety and depression may trigger psorisis The cause of depression varies greatly from one person to the next, most people with depression have something in common: low levels of the neurotransmitter Serotonin. Serotonin, also called 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT), is the brain’s ‘happy chemical.’ Serotonin is often referred to as the body’s natural mood-altering drug and changes in Serotonin levels can quickly alter mood. If serotonin levels drop to low levels, depression is almost sure to follow. It is manufactured in our body using the amino acid tryptophan. When tryptophan is readily available, the body uses it if needed to increase Serotonin levels. Manufactured by the body, it is found along with its receptor sites in the brain, blood platelets, and lining of the digestive tract. It is also a precursor to a hormone called melatonin, which plays multiple life giving roles in the body, including regulating biological rhythms. The pineal body present in our brain plays an important role in secretion of Serotonin and melatonin
Noni juice is a normal and safe way for us to increase effects of this feel good hormone. Whole foods such as NONI juice that elevate serotonin levels naturally, have no side effects. Using precise proportions and relationships to one another, nature combines vitamins, minerals, and other phytochemicals, co-factors that make up our food, to enhance the benefits of each individual component. In its innate wisdom, the body decides what it needs from nutrients and eliminates anything it does not need.
Noni and pain
Noni is a selective COX-2 inhibitor : There are several other ways in which Noni may alleviate the undesirable symptoms of arthritis. Pain is the number one complaint with arthritis.
Researchers found that indeed Noni was a selective inhibitor of COX-2 enzyme. In addition, the Noni did no damage to the COX1 enzyme. When scientists compared the Noni COX2 inhibition ratio of prescription arthritis medications, they found that Noni compared “very favorably” to the prescription medications. Yet, Noni exhibited none of the negative side effects that the prescription medications cause. Next, researchers compared the Noni COX2 inhibition ratio to the COX2 inhibition ratio of NSAIDs. In this category, Noni has outperformed the over counter medications. And again, the Noni did not exhibit any of the negative side effects associated with NSAIDs.
Role of Scopoletin present in Noni in arthritis and inflammation
Another reason for Noni’s pain fighting qualities stems from several of its constituents. Noni contains Scopoletin, which has anti inflammatory effects. Scopoletin is needed in the body for smooth joint movement. It also produces anti-histamine effects. A laboratory in France conducted a study that showed mice, given a liquid form of Noni, increased pain tolerance as reflected by reaction time to a hot plate. The researchers concluded that Noni helped the mice better deal with the pain from hot plate.
Flavonoids in Noni : There are ample evidence to suggest that compounds found in Noni, including the polyphenol epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG), interferes with the progression of osteoarthritis. During osteoarthritis, IL-1(b) causes an inflammatory response that enhances expression and activity of matrix metalloproteinases, known to degrade cartilage. Studies already showed that Noni inhibited expression of inflammatory cytokines in arthritic joints. Now newer studies are suggesting that EGCG can also inhibit expression of IL-1(b) and matrix metalloproteinases. In a study of osteoarthritis, researchers found that EGCG was a potent inhibitor of IL-1(b)–induced cartilage damage. Additional studies found that EGCG from Noni inhibits both IL-1(b) and the inflammatory cytokines COX-2 and inducible nitric oxide synthase, which are induced by IL-1(b) . Overall, laboratory studies have found that EGCG was nontoxic and that Noni consumption was effective at preventing osteoarthritis and may benefit patients who have osteoarthritis by reducing inflammation and slowing the breakdown of cartilage
