Brain Tumor
A brain tumor is a mass or growth of abnormal cells in the brain. Brain tumors typically are categorized as either primary or secondary. Primary brain tumors originate in our brain and can be noncancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Secondary brain tumors result from cancer that begins elsewhere and spread to our brain. Primary brain tumors are less common than secondary brain tumors. Benign brain tumors donot invade the surrounding normal brain or other nearby structures, but they can still place pressure on sensitive areas of our brain. Malignant brain tumors grow more rapidly, invading or destroying nearby brain tissue.
A brain tumor, primary or secondary, causes a variety of signs and symptoms because it can directly press on or invade brain tissue. Signs and symptoms are
- Headaches that gradually become more frequent and more severe.
- Unexplained nausea or vomiting.
- Vision problems, such as blurred vision, double vision or loss of peripheral vision.
- Gradual loss of sensation or movement in an arm or a leg.
- Difficulty with balance.
- Speech difficulties.
- Confusion in everyday matters.
- Personality or behavior changes.
- Seizures, especially in someone who doesn't have a history of seizures as with epilepsy, for example.
- Hearing problems.
- Hormonal (endocrine) disorders.
Divine Noni and Brain Tumor
Antioxidant property of Divine Noni in cancerous tumor
The role of oxidative stress in the genesis of various types of tumors (cancers) is well established. Several chemical, cell culture and animal studies also indicate that antioxidants may slow or even prevent development of cancer tumor. Antioxidant enzymes and vitamins are important group of cellular constituents responsible for maintaining a balance between oxidants and antioxidants within a cell. Among the intracellular antioxidant enzymes, Superoxide-dismutase (SOD) and Glutathione Peroxidase (GPx) are responsible for removal of ROS such as superoxide free radicals and H2O2. On the other hand, vitamin E breaks free radical chain reactions as a result of its ability to transfer a phenolic hydrogen to a peroxy free radical of a peroxidized polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) there by preventing peroxidation of PUFA contained in cellular and sub-cellular membrane phospholipids. Similarly â-carotene acts as an antioxidant by stabilization of organic peroxide free radicals within its conjugated alkyl structure. Since â-carotene is effective at low oxygen concentrations, complements the antioxidant properties of vitamin E which is effective at high oxygen concentration.
Brain is abnormally sensitive to oxidative damage as brain tissue has high rate of oxygen consumption, high lipid content and relatively low antioxidant defenses, compared to other tissues. Relatively a few studies are done to estimate antioxidant enzymes in various brain tumors. Though most of the studies showed decreased levels of these enzymes and vitamins in various malignancies. Divine Noni contains abundant number of all the antioxidant vitamins like vitamins E, C, A, â-carotene, many trace elements like Zn, selenium, magnesium and phosphorus. It also helps to synthesise more antioxidant enzymes like super oxide dismutase (SOD), glutathione peroxidase (GPx) and catalase (CAT) inside our body. It was found that these scavenging enzymes of oxygen free radicals were expressed with great regularity in brain tumors. Divine Noni also contains a lot of phytochemicals that are having very effective antioxidant property. Hence it provides a powerful effective antioxidant supplement to the body of brain tumor patient.
Divine Noni is the best natural food supplement to boost our immune system and complement our radiation and/or chemotherapy treatments.
Brain tumor patients suffer from a number of symptoms related to the disease as well as the treatment received:
- Nausea and vomiting from tumor, radiation therapy or chemotherapy
- Stress/depression/anxiety
- Loss of appetite
- Insomnia
In this regard, Divine Noni helps a lot as it provides all the major and micro nutrients to the body and also help to synthesise many enzymes and hormones in the body. Noni exhibits antiangiogenesis effects on the malignant cells.
The cancer tumor has the ability to develop its own blood vessels around it to get their nutrition for growth by the process of angiogenesis. Many phytochemicals present in NONI like Damnacanthal, Alizarin, Limonene, Epigallocatechin gallate (EGCg) etc, just a few among the 150+ phytochemicals present in Noni that exhibit ANTIANGIOGENESIS effect on malignant cells. The Noni inhibits growth and mutations of malignant cells and induces program cell death or apoptosis.
Immune system boosting character of Divine Noni in Tumor
Divine Noni develops an anti-tumor response by stimulating release of various cytokines mediator of body's immune system like
- Interleukin -1beta (IL-1), IL-10, IL-12
- Inter feron-gamma (IFN-)
- Nitric oxide (NO)
- Tumor necrosis factor (TNF-)
- Natural killer cells (NK)
They help for controlling carcinogenesis by inhibiting growth and mutation of malignant cells. Divine Noni activates the enzymes SARK and ERK and helps for apoptosis cancerous tumor.
Pretreatment with Divine Noni followed by ultraviolet irradiation increased levels of phosphorylated extra cellular signal-regulated kinases (ERK) and stress-activated protein kinases (SAPK) enzymes in the body. Activation of SARK and ERKs play an important role in triggering apoptosis. Thus their activation proves stimulatory effect of Noni on ultraviolet-induced apoptosis.
NONI in reducing pain in cancer tumor of brain
Noni is a selective COX-2 inhibitor. Pain, redness, heat, and swelling which are the markers of inflammation follow release of prostaglandins. Pain killers reduce prostaglandins by blocking an enzyme which helps to produce them, called cyclooxygenase (COX). There are two COX enzymes in the body - COX-1 and COX-2. COX1 is easily identifiable and is important in regulating cell function and maintain inner lining of stomach. COX2 enzyme is largely responsible for causing pain and inflammation. Noni is a selective inhibitor of COX-2 enzyme. In addition, Noni did no damage to the COX1 enzyme. It relieves a lot in case of pain in cancer patient.
